Peter Greenberg Worldwide—The St. Regis Washington D.C.—January 27, 2018

Locations in this article:  Berlin, Germany

This week, Peter Greenberg Worldwide comes from The St. Regis in Washington, D.C., the legendary & historic hotel just two blocks from the White House. We’ll be taking an expanded look at the exploding food scene in the nation’s capital. Next month the hotel opens Alhambra, a restaurant featuring modern Mediterranean cuisine using fresh local ingredients. It features partnerships with local purveyors including Boulangerie Christophe, a local baker from the south of France. Many dishes will be prepared table side, and even the French fries will be done differently! The hotel first opened its doors in October 1926 and presidents from Harry Truman to Ronald Reagan were regular fixtures. Jacqueline Kennedy, Audrey Hepburn, and Elizabeth Taylor were often seen entertaining at the St. Regis, a hotel that has been renovated (and restored) numerous times, including in 1987 and just recently in 2008. Next month, the hotel will be premiering a Mediterranean restaurant, Alhambra, with a whole new take on the food scene. The refreshing thing about the hotel is that the high ceilings, cathedral-style windows, and the original wood has never been changed. Joining Peter will be Chef Sebastian Giannini, with his take on Mediterranean cuisine, his secrets for making the best French fries, and where he sources his cheese. Roxanne Roberts from The Washington Post will discuss how being in the D.C. area means having a front row seat to history. Giulia Adelfio, from the Library of Congress, will talk about the secrets (and the accessibility) of one of America’s real treasures. Anna Spiegel, Food Editor at Washingtonian Magazine, will discuss how the hotel food scene has changed, along with some of her new favorite gastronomic destinations in our nation’s capital. Joseph Mattioli, the General Manager of the St. Regis, shares some of the history of the hotel and his definition of hospitality—and let’s not forget his new approach to brunch on Sundays. There’s all of this and more when Peter Greenberg Worldwide broadcasts from The St. Regis in Washington, D.C.
