Travel Tip: One Way to Pop Your Ears on an Airplane

Do you ever notice your ears popping during takeoff and landing, when the pressure quickly changes inside the cabin?

That can often explain why babies tend to cry more.

So what can you do about it?

Some folks suggest chewing gum, or swallowing frequently, to open those ear passageways.

That might work, but I have a better, sure-fire idea.

Right before you start your descent, about 20 minutes before landing, ask the flight attendant for a half-full cup of hot water.

Then put it on the tray table.

Slowly and carefully, lean over and press each ear, one at a time, on top of the cup for about 30 seconds.

The steam coming from the hot water will quickly clear your ears.

It works all the time.

This can’t help the crying babies, but it will help you.
