Travel Tip: Which Hotel Chain Has the Best Rewards Program

Chances are you’re a member of a hotel chain’s frequent stay program.

Perhaps you’re a member of more than one.

But which hotel rewards program is the best?

After all, what’s the point of earning rewards if you can’t use them?

To find out, WalletHub, a financial services website, recently studied the programs and examined them across 21 key metrics.

They looked at the average value of a points program and their expiration policies.

Who were the winners? Wyndham offers the most rewards with the least restrictions.

It was followed by Best Western, the only major hotel chain whose rewards points don’t expire because of account inactivity.

Why did Wyndham win? Members can book award points at consistent point values—no surge pricing.

But one important caution remains.

Always look at the fine print on every frequent hotel stay program.

There could be blackout periods—or surge pricing exactly when you want to go.

My advice? Pick a place where you’ve never been that’s not on your bucket list. Chances are you’ll have a better opportunity to redeem those points.
