Travel Tip: Train Rides Around the World Worth the Journey

From now through October, it may be the best time to take a great scenic train trip, where the journey might be more important than the destination.

You’ve heard of the legendary Orient Express.

It starts in Paris and travels to Istanbul.

What about Rovos Rail?

It’s an incredible trip that begins in Pretoria in South Africa and then heads to Victoria Falls.

In Australia, Great Southern Rail’s Indian Pacific train goes from Perth to Sydney.

It’s the longest piece of straight train track in the world.

Leave London in the evening on the Caledonian Sleeper and arrive mid-morning in Scotland.

In Peru, there’s the Belmond Hiram Bingham, which can take you from Cusco all the way to Machu Picchu.

But let’s not forget the opportunities right here in North America.

There are still observation cars on Via, the Canadian rail system.

The Rocky Mountaineer is a good option in Canada for luxury train travel.

Amtrak’s California Zephyr climbs both the Rockies and the Sierra Nevada on the way to the Pacific Coast.
