30662This week, the Peter Greenberg Worldwide Radio Show broadcasts from the U.S. Travel Association’s International Pow Wow in Washington, D.C. The IPW is not a typical trade show. Is is three days of intensive pre-scheduled business appointments, with more than 1,000 U.S. travel organizations from every region of the U.S., making it the largest generator of travel to the U.S. Chris Thompson, CEO of Brand USA, drops by to discuss Brand USA’s interesting platform as a public private partnership which promotes the United States as a premier travel destination. He also reveals what happens to some of the money brought in from travel visas. Janelle Smith, Public Affairs Specialist at Recreation.gov, explains that she is on a mission to help people fall in love with lesser-known U.S. national parks, and uses her position to curate content and find unique itineraries for park visitors. Roger Dow, President and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association, explains that without security there is no travel. He goes on to discuss current safety-related measures, including the travel ban and the economic impact of the laptop ban.

Chris Thompson, CEO of Brand USA, discusses Brand USA’s interesting platform as a public private partnership which promotes the United States as a premier travel destination, and reveals what happens to some of the money brought in from travel visas.

Cory Jobe, Director of the Illinois Office of Tourism, explains that he has 142 appointments in the next few days and that 90 percent of his business is booked during IPW. He also discusses international markets, China, and the world’s most visited presidential library.

Arnie Weissman, Editor-in-Chief of Travel Weekly, discusses Brand USA, the 171 to 1 return on investment for every dollar received from visa fees, and President Trump’s proposed cut of its subsidy.

Mike Boyd, President of Boyd Group International, explains that trains built America, even before the interstate, and that people used to set their watches by trains. He also discusses some of Amtrak’s more popular routes.

Bill Talbert, President & CEO of the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau, discusses that IPW is a great way to gauge what is happening in the travel industry since a substantial amount of business is booked at the Pow Wow. He remains hopeful about the current downturn in travel and believes it’s mostly an issue of perception.

Bruce Wallin, Editorial Director at Robb Report, dishes on 2017’s best of the best. From aviation to cars to watches, he leaves no luxury stone unturned.
