If necessity is truly the mother of invention, then help may be on the way if you miss your flight connection—or an airline loses or delays your bags.

Freebird is a service whose time may have come.

It lets you rebook your flight on any domestic carrier, not just the one that contributed to you missing your connection.

You register your itinerary just two days in advance and then pay $19 if you’re on a one-way ticket or $34 for round trip.

If your plans are disrupted, Freebird sends you a text with the new flights you can take.

You pick one, and off you go.

If things go from bad to worse, check out Airhelp.com.

It allows you to more easily file a claim with any domestic or European Union airline to get appropriate compensation for your pain and suffering.

But it takes a 25 percent cut of what it gets for you.

Remember, if you don’t ask, you won’t get anything.
