Travel Tip: New Ways to Track Your Luggage

wing1If you’re like me, you’ve always believed that there are two kinds of airline bags: carry-on and lost.

Airlines will tell you they’re doing a better job with checked bags—losing, destroying, or damaging less of them. Technically, they’re right.

With just about every airline—with the exception of Southwest—charging for checked bags is one reason the airlines are losing less bags. It’s because they’re checking less bags.

But technology is helping as well.

Delta has a new tracking system and an app that tracks your bags and lets you know immediately if your bag made it onto the plane or on your connecting flight.

Bag manufacturers are now making smart luggage, incorporating GPS technology and radio frequency ID tags to better track and locate your bags.

But not every airline is part of the system yet.

For the moment, I still believe in my carry on mantra.
