Travel Tip: Parking Tickets When You Travel

carIt’s difficult enough to navigate city streets when you’re driving in another city, but parking signs only add to that confusion.

Have you ever seen parking signs where nothing seems to make sense? As in, you can only park on a Tuesday between 10 and 2, unless there’s street cleaning or the moon is in an eclipse?

Well, what happens if you get a parking ticket with a rental car?

It’s tempting to throw away the ticket and pretend it never happened. They can’t prove it was you, right?

But more often than not, the rental company gets notice of the parking violation, and they’ll pass your information right over to the authorities.

Not only will you get the ticket in the mail, but you may also be nailed with an administrative fee by the rental company.

The same goes for traffic violations, toll costs, or other citations.

You do have the right to dispute fines, usually within a two-month window from when you receive the notice.

But that comes with its own challenges when you’re in a different city, state, or even country.

By that time, you’re probably dealing with late fees and, ultimately, even debt collectors.

My advice? Cut your losses and pay the fine.
