Not everyone connects travel with philanthropy, but some hotels make it easy for their guests to give back to a good cause.
The Ritz-Carlton brand has an entire program called Community Footprints. You can join hands-on volunteer groups but, if you don’t have the time, you can give back in other ways. For example, if you book a wedding at a participating property, you have the option of donating a portion of the costs to a charity that matters to you.
In San Francisco, Personality Hotels—which includes Hotel Diva and Hotel Union Square—has a package that gets you a bottle of wine and Ghirardelli chocolate. But the really cool part is that they’ll donate a portion to the Family House, a non-profit that provides temporary housing to families of seriously ill children.
The St Francis Hotel in Santa Fe has a package that gives 10 percent of proceeds to Santa Fe Human Rights, a gay and lesbian advocacy group.
St. Giles Hotels—which has two properties in Manhattan—will donate a percentage of your online booking toward The Robin Hood Foundation, a local non-profit that helps families in New York’s poorest neighborhoods.
