Locations in this article:  Atlanta, GA New Orleans, LA San Francisco, CA

It’s autumn and for most people, that means gearing up for the Super Bowl of feasts known as Thanksgiving. But in many communities, it also means celebrating the harvest in another way.

Central California isn’t as well-known as its counterparts in L.A. or San Francisco, but this region produces about 25 percent of our table food. You can get a first-hand look at the upcoming Savor the Central Coast Food Festival. It’s not just about rubbing elbows with celebrity chefs. It’s a chance to meet the local farmers, fishermen and winemakers who make the food we eat.

And when someone says Southern food, you probably think about Atlanta, Charleston or New Orleans. But the next big event is actually in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

It’s the TerraVITA Food & Wine Event that highlights the region’s sustainable farming, biodynamic wine and organic food makers.

And while nothing says fall harvest like pumpkins and apples, it’s also all about cranberries this time of year. You want to head to the Warrens Cranberry Festival in Wisconsin and the annual celebration in Nantucket in October to really get the most out of the season.
