Voluntourism Spotlight: Volunteer Work Day at the Great Smoky Mountains Institute

This week’s Voluntourism Spotlight takes us back to The Great Smoky Mountains where we focus our lens on the Annual Volunteer Work Day at Tremont taking place Saturday, November 10.

The Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont is the research and education arm that connects people to the 521,000-acre park that spans parts of North Carolina and Tennessee. Volunteer Work Day is a longstanding tradition at Tremont and happens the second Saturday of November each year. Volunteers arrive at 8:30 am and spend the day helping staff with a number of projects from trail maintenance and campus clean-up to staff vehicle clean-up. There are also indoor activities so there’s really something for everyone. To break up the day and say thanks, volunteers are treated to lunch on site.

Volunteers of all ages and ability levels are welcome. Volunteers come from all over and include scout troops, organizations, businesses and individuals all eager to help. All you need to bring is your willingness to work and they’ll make sure you leave with a sense of accomplishment. Find out more and register click here or call 865-448-6709.
