Travel with the Millionaires’ Magician Steve Cohen

Locations in this article:  Brooklyn, NY Las Vegas, NV London, England

SC: We’re going as far away as Brooklyn where we did one very, very dangerous feat of magic, known as “The Bullet Catch.”

PG: That trick is extremely dangerous. How many people have died?

SC: At least 12 people that have died performing this, so it’s a very, very dangerous feat. I’ll be doing it on the show in Brooklyn in a firing range, and it was a pretty intense moment in my career.

PG: Twelve people have died. Are you not scared at all?

SC: It was petrifying. The gun range where we performed this is underground, there’s bullet holes everywhere. My job was to stop a speeding bullet and catch it in my mouth.

Of course there’s magic to it, but no matter how much technique you think you have, when you’re staring down the barrel of a gun there is no denying that your heart starts racing.

PG: And they fired the gun.

SC: Without giving away what happened, because it was actually very dramatic for me, I’ll put it this way, everyone there was running in fear after the trick.

PG: Well I’ll say this, you’re alive now, you did it, but you did get hurt?

SC: Yes, I got injured during the performance of the bullet catch. I always tell people that if there were to attempt to do this in the future that they shouldn’t. I know that myself that I would never attempt the bullet catch again. My goal was to recreate, a historic magic scene once performed by a famous magician named Chung Ling Soo and Soo died on stage while performing this trick.

PG: Tell me more about history of the trick? How far back does it date?

SC: All the magic that I’ll be doing in the show goes back hundreds of years. Magic does have such a rich, rich history, but people don’t often realize where these tricks come from. Some of the tricks fall by the wayside, because we want to see the new flashy magic like on the Las Vegas stage. With this show, we go around the world and speak with the people who are secret keepers, who have the last secret known to man.
