Travel Tip: Early Ski Season Savings

Believe it or not, ski season is practically here. Come November the slopes will be open, and in this case, planning ahead can pay off.
The fact is, ski resorts want to lock in your business, so they’ll actually discount if you book early enough.

Book 3 nights at the Park Hyatt Beaver Creek before November 30, and you’ll get a fourth night free, daily breakfast, and late checkout which basically allows for an extra day of skiing.

Crested Butte has a deal that will knock off 20 percent from your mountain lodging if you book by October 15.

Destination Hotels & Resorts has properties in resorts across the country, including Stowe Mountain Lodge in Vermont and the Resort at Squaw Creek in Tahoe. With these guys, the savings increase the earlier you book. Book by October 15 and you can save up to 35 percent; book between December 1 and 22, and you’ll save up to 25 percent.

Of course, all of these deals come with fine print. In most cases, you have to reserve multiple nights, not just one or two. And watch out for those blackout dates—no one will discount during high-demand days.

But if you play it smart, you really can save yourself a few bucks.
