Travel Tip: Volcano Travel

If you know the term “vulcanologist” has nothing to do with Star Trek, this one’s for you. There are tons of very cool volcano experiences out there that you may not have heard of.

How about driving a route that’s all about volcanic sites? The Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway is a 500-mile route between California and Oregon. It connects 26 volcanic sites, including some really cool places like Lassen Volcanic National Park and Lava Beds National Monument.

Or better yet, why not drive right into a volcano? That’s right, on the Caribbean Island of St. Lucia, you can drive right into a dormant caldera, near the town of Soufriere.

Don’t worry, it’s not actively spewing lava, but you can drive toward bubbling mud pools and sulfur springs.

Of course, most volcano fans are curious about Iceland since the eruption a couple of years ago. You can see it yourself by driving up the mountain in a monster truck and hiking to the glacier…or just save your energy and see it by helicopter.

Completely obsessed with volcanoes? Then you want to experience Volcano Discovery’s 28-day world tour. It takes you to active volcanoes in Hawaii, Vanuatu, New Zealand, and Indonesia.
