Travel Tip: Breezing Through the Airport

You may have heard about the TSA’s expedited screening program for some air travelers. But if you’re not one of the lucky ones, there are some other ways to make the airport process a little easier…and I don’t mean buying first-class ticket.

One option that won’t break the bank is to hire an airport concierge. These services escort you from the curb to the gate. One program, called Airport Concierge Experts, costs just about $100 and includes access to the airline VIP lounge.

Another option is to join the Clear program for expedited screening. This isn’t the easiest solution, since it requires a thorough background check and it’s only available in a limited number of airports.

In some cases, it can pay to focus your efforts to increase your status on a frequent-flier programs. You may not be able to redeem the miles, but at least you can use them for upgrades for better service.

And you don’t necessarily have to fly every week to reach elite status. For example, gold status on Delta and Continental require 50,000 miles, and that gets you access to priority services like dedicated check-in lines and early boarding.
