Where in the World is Peter Greenberg?

Locations in this article:  Los Angeles, CA

No man is an island, but Peter Greenberg is on one of the 180,400 islands on this planet. Can you guess which one?

Follow our clues to see if you can win this week’s Where in the World is Peter Greenberg? contest.

The clues:

  • This island only has about 8,000 year-round residents, but the population swells to 50,000 in the summer.
  • Of course this island is on the water, but did you know that its name also means “cascading water?”
  • The island has a historic WWII defense complex, designed to protect the harbor in case of an invasion. Inside the complex you can walk through the network of underground tunnels and chambers that link to gun emplacements.
  • Originally settled 1,000 years ago, there are over 40 archeological sites with relics of the island’s first settlers.
  • This island was the first community in its nation to vote itself a nuclear-free zone. Not to be outdone, the community board also declared the island “a genetic-engineering free zone.”
