Travel Tip: Low-Key Fall Foliage Experiences

fall-foliage-treeIt’s that time of year when people hit the road to see the leaves change.

But if you don’t want to break a sweat, but you can find fall foliage experiences beyond looking through a car window.

There’s hiking, and then there are hiking vacations for those who don’t want to do the heavy lifting.

Appalachian Trail Adventures has packages in Killington, Vermont that include guided day hikes and kayaking that are tailored to your level of fitness, plus they throw in meals and spa treatments.

And there’s my favorite way to travel: by water.

Most of the major cruise lines, like MSC and Holland America, sail along the coast of New England and Canada.

But if a week-long cruise doesn’t fit into your schedule, there are plenty of shorter options…and even in some unexpected locations.

Like the Spirit of Peoria, an old-school paddleboat that goes on foliage cruises along the Illinois River.

And if you really want to keep things low-key, look for fall deals at B&Bs. BedandBreakfast.com has a list of inns with prime foliage viewing, and the level of activity is entirely up to you.
