The Complete Hidden Gems: New Zealand

Locations in this article:  Auckland, New Zealand

New Zealand is one of the few places where you can step off the plane and be minutes away from starting an adventure.

In Christchurch, there is harness racing and sea-kayaking, just to name a few activities. You can even see if you have what it takes to be a polar explorer. Elsewhere in New Zealand, you can take to the water for a native Waka experience. The largest city in New Zealand has more than just Wakas, there are 30 volcanic hills, twin bays, beaches and coastal islands.

There are many ways to explore the country. Go beyond hiking, biking, or driving, to test out some unique transportation options. In New Zealand, Peter traveled old school in a 1939 Packard, discovered an unusual all-terrain vehicle and flew high with some innovative airplane technology.

It’s hard to forget about New Zealand’s rustic side. In fact, there are about 10 sheep for every person. Peter visits Cape Kidnappers in Hawk’s Bay, a 6,000-acre working sheep and cattle farm that is also a hotel, to spend some time with the unofficial animal of New Zealand.

And if sheep just aren’t your animal, Cape Kidnappers also has one of the largest and most-accessible bird colonies in the world. Or you can go native on Waihiki Island to explore the original flora and fauna as well as traditional crafts.

We like to say that every trip to New Zealand is a voyage of discovery. Watch our complete New Zealand Hidden Gems adventure here:
