Travel Tip: Nature Reserves, Great Eco-Friendly Travel

Aquariums and zoos are easy ways to see animals, but what about seeing them in their natural habitat?

Traveling to natural areas that promote conservation allows you to benefit from nature, and for nature to benefit from you!

Catch penguins and sheep sharing a hillside at the penguin conservation reserve at the Otago Peninsula in Dunedin, New Zealand.

Here, tour operators are careful to leave those habitats undisturbed, with guests viewing the wildlife from a safe distance.

Southeastern Ohio is home The Wilds, a 10,000-acre conservation center where you can get a hands-on experience in conservation through their community service program appropriately titled, Wild Hands.

For just $5 a person, groups can spend the day planting forest areas, landscaping, and constructing trails, and more.

If a guided tour or day of volunteering isn’t enough for you, there are more engaging and intensive programs out there.

Try taking a travel tour with The Nature Conservancy, a conservation organization that operates in all 50 states and 30 countries worldwide.

Immerse yourself in nature reserves where you can get up close and personal with some of the world’s more curious creatures and know that you’re supporting efforts to make sure they remain here.
