It may not cross your mind to visit a cemetery on your travels, unless you’re
talking about Arlington National.  

But if you look closely, you may find some lesser-known burial grounds that are
worth a visit.

For a lesson on American history, head to the Old Granary Burying Ground.

It’s the third-oldest cemetery in Boston, and is the resting place of famous
Revolutionary figures, from Paul Revere to John Hancock.

In Indianapolis, Crown Hill Cemetery is home to figures like the legendary bank
robber John Dillinger. But even more than its famous residents, the cemetery is
known for its scenic surroundings, with more than 500 acres and 150 species of
trees and plants.

If celebrity-spotting is on your agenda in Los Angeles, skip Rodeo Drive and
head to Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery. This where you’ll see old
Hollywood’s most famous names, including Marilyn Monroe, Burt Lancaster, Natalie
Wood, and Dean Martin.

And don’t miss out on the other renowned cemeteries in Los Angeles, like
Hollywood Forever. They even offer tours of the graveyard’s most famous
celebrity residents, as well as the old Hollywood stars that time forgot, and a
Jewish heritage tour.

And in Westchester County, New York, the place to see iconic Americans is
Ferncliff Cemetery, where Judy Garland, Joan Crawford, Malcolm X, and Superman
himself, Christopher Reeve, are buried.
