Travel Tip: Urban Wineries You Can Visit Around the Country

Locations in this article:  Brooklyn, NY Los Angeles, CA San Francisco, CA Seattle, WA

Wine bottle glassBy now, you probably know that all 50 states produce wine. But that doesn’t mean you have travel to the countryside to experience it. Urban wineries are becoming increasingly common in cities around the U.S.

Brooklyn Winery located in Williamsburg offers a lot more than just tastings. Located in a former nightclub space, it allows visitors to get hands-on experience with the entire winemaking process.

You can follow your wine from grape selection to de-stemming, crushing, and eventually bottling.

While California is known for its wine production, most people are surprised to hear that there’s a winery located in downtown Los Angeles. It’s called San Antonio Winery, and offers free tastings and tours.

Even smaller cities are getting in on it. New Bedford, Massachusetts is better known for whaling than wine-making, which makes Travessia Wine such an unexpected attraction. And they use only Massachusetts grapes, so you know you’re getting a local experience.

And of course, if you head to a foodie city like San Francisco, Seattle, Scottsdale, and Santa Fe, just to name a few, chances are, they have wineries and tasting rooms.

Of course, the big drawback of urban wineries is that you miss out on the vineyard experience, but you can save that for another trip.
