Travel Tip: I’m OK Alerts

Travel Tip: I’m OK Alerts

When you’re on the road a lot, it’s natural to want to keep in touch with your loved ones and left them know you’re OK, but it’s not always convenient. Here are some resources to help out….

ArrivedOK is a mobile tool for travelers to send out a notification that they have, well, arrived OK. You input your arrival time on the site and create a list of recipients. When you turn on your mobile phone, ArrivedOK sends out a message to your contacts, saving you the hassle of making multiple calls.

This system still has some kinks to work out. It can’t yet distinguish between cities, so if your flight lands at the right time but the wrong place, it still sends the “Arrived OK” message.

Now, if you’re caught in an emergency situation or disaster, communicating by cell phone may not be an option. Once you reach safe ground, you can alert your loved ones on the Red Cross‘ “Safe and Well” Web page.

Lastly, there’s another online resource called Everybody Safe. It costs about $6 a month, but if you’re caught in an emergency situation, you can log on or call the service to send out a message about your status to up to seven contacts.

Remember, when it comes to well-being, there’s no such thing as too much information.
