Up-Close Animal Experiences & Trainer for a Day Programs

Locations in this article:  Chicago, IL Orlando, FL

Sure, going to the zoo or an aquarium is a good way to observe animals in their habitats. But if you really want to get close to the animals without losing a limb, there is a way to make that happen.

The trick is to ask a local institution like a zoo or aquarium if they offer some type of “trainer for a day” programs.

That gets you hands-on experience with close supervision.

For example, Gatorland in Orlando offers a two-hour program for $125, where participants get a variety of experiences with alligators and crocodiles.

You’ll start off safety and handling basics.

Then comes the hands-on portion – where you can actually try crocodile wrestling.

Or how about getting up-close-and-personal with dolphins?

The Cancun location of Dolphinaris offers a full-on, eight-hour training experience for about $200.

Not only do you get to swim with the dolphins, but you also get access to behind-the-scenes sections of the aquarium.

The Shedd Aquarium in Chicago has a four-hour program where you can assist trainers with training and feeding.

And if land mammals are more your thing, try being Exotic Animal Trainer For the Day at Hollywood Animals, where you can work with animals like tigers, leopards or even grizzly bears.

People may say you’re crazy, but you’ll get a lifetime of bragging rights.
