New In-Flight Food Options

The quality of airplane food is a long-running joke, and now that airlines charge for meals, the joke is on us. But the surprising news is that some airlines are improving the quality of the food … even in coach!

Recently, American Airlines began rolling out Boston Market menu many routes.

Yes, they inflate the price, but $10 for an Italian submarine or a beef brisket sandwich with a side of chips? That’s not such a bad deal.

Delta has a menu that was designed by celebrity chef Todd English.

Although the $8 price tag on the Cobb salad may turn off some travelers, chances are you’re not going to beat that price inside the airport.

Over the summer, United Airlines unveiled its upgraded Choice Menu on certain routes, and plans to make it available in all markets this year.

On Virgin America, there’s food on demand via the in-flight entertainment screen, including a New Orleans-style muffuletta or a flat-iron steak sandwich, not to mention some crazy cocktails with absinthe.

And if none of the above sounds appealing because of the cost, check out Continental—it’s the last U.S. airline to serve free meals on domestic flights. Although how long that will be the case is anyone’s guess.
