Getting Online Without Wi-Fi

Whether you’re a business or leisure traveler it’s becoming more important than ever to stay connected on the road. But if you can’t find a hot spot, or don’t want to shell out those astronomical fees in the hotel or airport, here’s how you can get around it.

You can connect to the Internet with your phone company.

Sprint has something called mobile broadband; Verizon has Broadband Access Connect; and AT&T offers laptop connect cards.

It cost anywhere from $40 to $60 a month.

Well that sounds pricey, but guess what, getting online at a hotel for two days can cost you much more than that.

Now the way these services work is that you purchase a card for about a hundred dollars that plugs into your USB port and then it can be easily moved from one computer to another, even between a PC or a Mac.

Now there are some drawbacks: Sprint, for example, only works in the U.S.

But the bottom line is you’re no longer crawling around to try to find a connection and you’re not going to your wallet every time you want to get online.
