Traveling After the Olympics

Locations in this article:  Atlanta, GA Barcelona, Spain Beijing, China Sydney, Australia

First it was the Olympics in Beijing; next up are the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver. Even if you’re not planning to travel during the Games, the real key is what’s going to happen after everything is over.

Why? You’ll be able to get a great deal on hotel rooms there.

Traditionally Olympic host cities experience a sharp drop in occupancy for about seven weeks after the games, and in some cases, for years after the games.

That’s because Olympic host cities almost always overbuild hotel rooms.

They did it in Sydney, they did it in Barcelona. They’re still trying to fill hotel rooms they built in 1996 for the games in Atlanta.

So right now is the time to visit China, and then start making plans for your post-Olympic Vancouver trip!
