Unexpected Foreign Laws

Locations in this article:  Dubai, United Arab Emirates

It’s one thing to obey the law when you travel, but what about countries that enforce unexpectedly strict laws? Here’s where you need to be extra cautious on your travels.

If you are traveling to Singapore, don’t forget to flush the toilet in public bathrooms – it could cost you 100 Singapore dollars if you get caught failing to flush!

In the United Arab Emirates, illegal items include the sleep aid melatonin, codeine … and poppy seeds.

That’s right, a traveler was recently arrested in Dubai’s airport for having three poppy seeds stuck to his shirt.

And while Greece’s ban against all electronic games has been eased since the EU intervened, it is still illegal to play any type of game in Internet cafes.

And, here’s an unusual one: when driving in the Philippines, after 7 a.m., cars with license plates ending in specific numbers are banned from the road on certain days.

Good luck keeping up with that.
