When you’re picking up a friend or family member at a busy airport, circling the terminal can be a dizzying experience. The good news is that many airports are reducing congestion with something called cell phone parking lots.

Drivers who have to wait for a passenger can pull into a free, short-term parking lots near the gate.

Just wait for the traveler’s call before you pull up to the gate.

Airports such as Chicago O’Hare, LAX, Denver International, and Orlando have added cell phone parking lots, and several others plan to add these lots in the near future.

Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International, the busiest airport in the country, currently doesn’t offer a cell phone lot, but you can park for fifteen minutes for free in their hourly lot.

At Dallas Fort Worth International airport, you can pay fifty cents for the first hour in its remote parking lots while you go meet your traveler.

Or avoid congestion altogether with America’s Best Alternate Airports- New York, Miami, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco as well as More of America’s Best Alternate Airports- Boston, Dallas, Cincinnati, and Washington, DC.
