Unusual Accommodations: Prison Hotels

Have you ever stayed in a hotel where the room is as small as a prison cell? What if you could stay in a hotel that really used to be a prison?

You may know about the Four Seasons in Istanbul, which is housed in a former Turkish prison.

Now the newest jail-turned-hotel is The Liberty in Boston.

This upscale hotel is set in the old Charles Street Jail, which underwent a $150 million renovation.

The hotel pays homage with Do Not Disturb signs that say “Solitary” and a café called Clink.

In Christchurch, New Zealand, budget travelers can stay for about $20 at the Addington Prison.

Now known as Jailhouse Accommodations, the hostel contains remnants of the original cells, and artwork drawn on the walls by an inmate.

And, if you want to renovate your own prison, the St. Anne Prison in Avignon, France, is currently for sale.

Now, that’s what we call a major fixer-upper.
