Basic Hotel Secrets

There are many secrets to getting the most out of your hotel stay, and a lot of them involve just being aware to avoid overcharges, getting a room upgrade, and more.

Most travelers know to check their hotel bill before they leave, but you may want to look over yours more carefully next time.

According to an audit of hotel bills, the average traveler is overcharged over 11 dollars a night. Watch out for fees for fridges or anything labeled “local.”

If you’re bringing a pet, make sure you find out the exact fee from a manager before you get there.

Want an upgrade to a fancier room? Full occupancy is rare, so it’s often possible to upgrade upon check-in.

Offer to pay 10-20 percent more than your current room’s rate, and you may be sleeping in a suite.

Before you hop into bed, though, beware of bedbugs.

Pest-control companies say hotels account for over 35 percent of their business, so search for your hotel on Bedbugregistry.com to see if it’s safe to snooze.
