Solo Travelers Connecting to Cut Costs

Want to hook up with other travelers to cut costs or find companionship? Well, the matchmakers have gone online.

If you’re planning to take a cab to or from a New York area airport, why not split the cost and share the ride?

Hitchers.com is a free site that can set that up.

You can also plan cab sharing on AirTroductions, but its main purpose is to connect air travelers. The downside is the $5 fee per “airtroduction.”

And finally, TripUp, Soul Escape, and 2 Instead Of 1 offer social networking and trip-long companions, among other online offerings.

All three sites are free and have members all over the world, with most looking for vacation companions, but some looking for love.
