Roatán, Honduras
Another Central American gem is Roatan, the largest of Honduras Bay Islands. It first became known as a cruise ship port, and now air lift is expanding… so that means go now before it gets overrun. Non-stop flights only take place once a week or so (American, Delta, United, Taca)
There’s a reason those who have discovered it want to keep it a secret: It’s sunny and 80s all year round, and home to the world’s second-largest barrier reef. It’s a huge scuba diving destination, with 90 percent of the identified species that live in the Caribbean Sea. It’s actually one of least-expensive places for divers, both experienced and novice.
