Travel Tip: New Year’s Resolutions for the Travel Industry in 2017

It’s a new year, so it’s time for my 2017 travel resolutions—or, my hopes for the travel industry in the upcoming year.
I’d like some truth in scheduling.
Ask any airport authority how many airline takeoffs a runway can handle in a given hour (assuming there’s perfect weather) and they’ll tell you 22.
So why are airlines allowed to schedule as many as 34 takeoffs in an hour?
It doesn’t take a genius to do basic math here.
The airlines are allowed to schedule these flights to appear competitive at peak times, when in fact, they’re only being stupid.
If there are 34 airlines scheduled to depart at 8 a.m., and you’re on the thirtieth flight, you’re going to be at least an hour late.
Government authorities should publish runway limits and then enforce the schedules accordingly. Otherwise, we are all either flying—or in many cases, attempting to fly— in denial.
