Travel Tip: Buying an Open Jaw Plane Ticket

Locations in this article:  London, England Paris, France

airplaneWhen it comes to airline travel, most of us think in terms of round trip or one-way tickets.

But there’s another approach: the open-jaw plane ticket.

Think of it as an uncompleted, two-sided triangle.

It gives you all sorts of travel and destination options you didn’t know you had—and often at the same or lower ticket price.

Say you want to fly from the U.S. to London. If you fly round trip, the British authorities will then throw in a passenger use tax that’s charged to anyone flying from an airport in the United Kingdom.

My advice? Buy an open jaw ticket that will not only eliminate the tax but give you Paris as well.

The ticket would be from the U.S. to London and then from Paris back to the U.S.

With the money you save on that ridiculous tax you can take the Eurostar train to Paris and then fly back.

You can apply this to dozens of other itineraries, and it works every time.
