Travel Tip: When Exchange Rates Can Help You Save on Plane Tickets

monacoYou don’t have to be an international money trader to take advantage of currency fluctuations between countries, especially when it comes to buying airline tickets.

If the U.S. dollar is especially strong against other currencies, you can take advantage of the imbalance.

Log on to that airline’s website in the country where the currency is weakest against the U.S. dollar and purchase the ticket in the local currency.

Are you going to Argentina on American Airlines? Log onto the American website in Argentina to book your ticket in pesos.

In doing so, you can save up to 30 percent.

The same works in Europe.

Where language is a problem, use Google Translate to help you navigate the site.

But remember to use a credit card that doesn’t have a foreign transaction fee, since you are officially purchasing the ticket in that country.

There’s one other added benefit.

Once you’ve booked the ticket, you can find available seats on the website that are not displayed on the U.S. site.
