Travel Tip: What One New Bill Could Change About Travel

tarmacThe U.S. Senate recently passed a long-delayed bill reauthorizing funds for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

While the bill is yet to be signed, it contains provisions that will actually benefit travelers.

It will standardize how airlines disclose fees for basic services, such as checked bags, ticket changes, or cancellations.

It also includes seat assignments so you’ll be able to more easily compare both fares and fees as you shop for tickets.

The bill will also require that the airlines’ refund all bag fees for checked bags that are delivered more than six hours after a domestic flight has landed.

There’s even a provision for families traveling together, requiring the airlines to inform parents at the time of ticketing if they are able to seat the family together.

With luck, this bill will become law. But probably not before the next president takes office.
