Travel Tip: The Safest Year in Aviation History

wing1Would you like to know the safest year in commercial aviation history? It was 2015.

Not a single passenger fatality was recorded on a western-built jet—aside from the premeditated Germanwings crash and the shoot down of a Russian airliner over Egypt.

Let’s put that in perspective: there were 34 million flights last year and a total of just 16 crashes.

Do you need more convincing data about safety?

If 1962 fatal accident rates on airliners were coupled with today’s rate of aircraft departures, there would be a major jet crash every other day.

Is this a reason to celebrate? Perhaps.

But now we have the larger challenge to maintain those incredible statistics.

As we near the anniversary of the Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 mystery, there’s still work to be done—on flight tracking, air traffic control upgrades, and continued advanced pilot training.

But for the moment, the odds have never been more in your favor every time you fly.
