Travel Tip: The Status of Desks in Hotel Rooms

hotel deskFor about twenty years, almost every time I’d check into a hotel room, I’d search for a functional desk.

First off, I’d clear all the tent cards and other promotional garbage from the desktop and throw them away.

Then I’d begin the crawl—looking for at least one electrical outlet for my electronic devices.

Now, just when some hotels have gotten the message that we really want a place to work in our rooms, the hotel designers are at it again.

Holiday Inn and Courtyard by Marriott are both introducing mobile desks that let you work from the sofa in your room rather than chairs.

That assumes, of course, that you have a sofa.

But other Marriott hotels are removing the desks altogether, claiming that millennials want nothing to do with desks.
