Travel Tip: Why Intercity Bus Travel Is On The Rise

busesWe’ve seen a huge boom in intercity bus travel in recent years, and this summer is no exception.

A new survey out of DePaul University predicted record numbers of holiday bus travelers—the highest figures in 25 years.

One of the big changes is that Megabus now offers reserved seats on major East Coast routes. So instead of getting in line early to snag the best seat, you can guarantee you have it in advance.

Several intercity bus lines, including BoltBus, Greyhound Express and Peter Pan Express, have upped their games in recent years.

We’re talking specifically about free Wi-Fi and power outlets, which puts bus rides on par with train travel or flying.

The frequency of intercity bus services also increased. It’s up 2.1 percent during normal travel periods.

Even though fuel prices are relatively low, travelers are still looking for a bargain, which makes the bus an economically viable option for journeys of 400 miles or less.
