Travel Tip: How to Board a Plane Faster
Did you know that for every minute an airplane idles on the ground, it costs the airline about $30?
Translation: It’s in the airline’s best interest to get you on the plane and in the air as efficiently as possible.
Delta has announced an Early Valet program in eight airports where it’ll pre-load your carry-on bags.
A few years ago, American Airlines started the method of letting people on early if they had no carry-on luggage.
In other countries, they use a very simple and effective solution: they open the doors at the back of the plane as well as the front.
Alaska Airlines tried this in a couple of airports, which saved about 10 minutes in the boarding process.
But keep watching this space, because the airline industry has recommended shrinking the standard size for carry-on bags to free up space in the bins. It could speed up the process, but it may mean you have to invest in a new piece of luggage.
