Travel Tip: National Parks You Can Visit This Spring

Acadia National Park

It’s officially spring and for some people, it’s time to start thinking about a national park visit. Here’s what’s happening this season.

Yellowstone National Park has closed the roads to winter snowmobiles and snow coaches. They’ll start allowing cars on April 17, usually beginning in the northern end of the park.

Just watch out for ongoing winter weather conditions—after all, this is a park where you can still go skiing in spring.

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park has opened for the season, and springtime here is all about wildflowers.

Roads in higher elevations may close at night when the temperatures drop, and spring rains can make rivers and waterfalls treacherous.

But let’s not forget the rough winter we’ve had. Acadia National Park in Maine is still digging out, so some areas may be delayed in opening this year.

Trust me, if you want to book a national park lodge this summer, the time to start planning is right now. The high season fills up before you know it.
