Uganda’s natural beauty and rich history are an untapped resource for travelers—after all, Winston Churchill once coined Uganda “the pearl of Africa.”

This week, we broadcast from Uganda at the Speke Resort Munyonyo. We catch up with some of our regulars, but meet quite a few impressive locals as well.

Peter gets a chance to learn all about the history of Uganda as it is displayed at the Igongo Cultural Centre from owner James Tumusiime. He also catches up with an old friend, Amos Wekesa—the go-to guy for anything in Uganda.

Sarah Pew, an old friend of the program who recently went on her honeymoon in Africa, tells Peter about some of her favorite things to do in Tanzania.

Mr. James Tumusiime, famed Ugandan publisher and owner of the Igongo Cultural Center, tells Peter about some of the Ugandan history represented at the cultural center.

Mr. Amos Wekesa, Managing Director of Great Lakes Safaris, shares some of his favorite places including some of the best spots for white water rafting. Wekesa calls Uganda “Africa compressed,” because everything you can find on the continent of Africa, you can also find in Uganda.

Chef Ali Matano of the Speke Resort Munyonyo describes traditional Ugandan food and explains how it differs from the cuisine in his home country of Kenya. He also tells Peter all about his favorite dish, a local tilapia that comes right from Lake Victoria.

Achilles Byaruhanga, the Executive Director of Nature Uganda, educates Peter on the importance of preserving the environment and what you as a visitor can do to help the country in its quest to keep Uganda beautiful. He also talks about the famous endangered gorillas and what is being done to protect them.
