Travel Tip: Crossing State Borders With A Rental Car

carYou know where to rent a car, but do you know where you’re allowed to DRIVE your rental car? If you go the wrong direction, you may actually void your contract and liability waiver.

Planning to take the car out of state? Better ask at the counter whether it’s covered in your contract.

Most agencies have GPS tracking that can detect where you’ve driven the car. If you get into an accident out of state, you could be liable for a lot more than you bargained for.

You always need special permission to pick up a car in one state and drop it off in another…and with that convenience usually comes a significant fee.

Crossing the border into another country definitely requires notification. You may even need a specific kind of insurance to cover you in either Canada or Mexico.

Did you know that driving on the wrong terrain can cost you? Going off paved roads into gravel or dirt can void your contract, unless you’re in a car specifically designed for off-roading.
