Peter Greenberg Worldwide–The Conservatorium Hotel, Amsterdam–January 3, 2014

Locations in this article:  Amsterdam, Netherlands

taikoThis week, Peter Greenberg Worldwide rings in the new year from one of the hot new hotels in Europe, the Conservatorium Hotel Amsterdam. Imagine a total hotel conversion from an original 19th century, neo-gothic building with great history — a bank turned into a music conservatorium and then…a beautiful hotel. And perhaps the best part — walking distance to the Van Gogh Museum, the Stedelijk Museum, the Royal Concertgebouw concert hall, the Vondelpark, the Jordaan neighborhood and the historical center of Amsterdam.

Not to mention the hotel’s own cutting edge Asian-inspired restaurant, Taiko, run by Schilo Van Coevorden. (You must order the cod…but also leave room for dessert. Asian restaurants are not known for their desserts. Taiko is a refreshing exception!)

Guests this week include Sarah Bartlett from National Geographic to talk about some of the spookiest places she’s traveled; Andrew Tan of The Cannabis College Foundation to debunk some myths about cannabis in Amsterdam; and Axel Rüger, Director of the Van Gogh Museum, to explain why the city of Amsterdam played such an important part in Van Gogh’s oeuvre.
