Travel Tip: New Year’s Events at Ski Resorts

Locations in this article:  Columbia, SC

alta-utah-new-years.jpgWe’re coming up on New Year’s Eve, and that means some major celebrations are happening around the world. Want to know where you can see some of the coolest spectacles? Ski resorts. Check out these New Year’s events on the slopes.

You don’t even have to be a skier to enjoy the party.

On New Year’s Eve, Telluride, Colorado, has a parade of skiers and snowboarders descending the slope carrying red torches. Just look up from the base of Lift 4 at dusk to see the parade—which literally looks like lava flowing down the mountain—followed by fireworks.

In Deer Valley, there’s a torchlight parade down Bald Eagle Mountain on December 30. These are skiers covered from head to toe in lights, and others spinning red torches in synchronized patterns.

On New Year’s Eve, Whistler resort in British Columbia has a special fire and ice show, where athletes ski and jump through rings of fire.

The celebrations started December 19 at Heavenly resort in Lake Tahoe, and they really kick things up on New Year’s Eve. This includes ice sculptors, an ice skating show, and fire dancers before the fireworks.
