Travel Tip: The Best Airports for Long Layovers

Locations in this article:  Amsterdam, Netherlands

changi 2No one really “likes” getting stuck at the airport, but some layovers are a little more interesting than others. I’m talking about the airports with some really cool activities. Here are some of the best airports for long layovers.

Changi Airport in Singapore consistently wins awards as the world’s best airport, and it’s not just because of all the food and shopping.

You can do some really wild stuff: there’s a swimming pool on the roof of Terminal 1, a butterfly garden, and even a waterslide in the airport.

Got at least four hours to spare? The airport offers free Singapore city tours as long as you have your passport and boarding pass.

Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport also consistently tops the best airports lists. There’s free Wi-Fi, a Dutch-inspired cocktail bar, and even a flower market.

We have a long way to go here in the U.S., but some terminals are starting to improve.

Tom Bradley International Terminal at LAX used to be a total embarrassment. But they’ve put in almost $2 billion worth of renovations and upgrades, with public art, some of the top local restaurants, and a 25,000-square-foot duty-free shop.
