Travel Tip: Apps to Help You Book Bus & Train Travel

greyhoundThere are dozens of websites and apps to help you search, compare and book air travel. But what about bus and train travel? Technology is starting to catch up there as well.

On the Northeast corridor, Amtrak and intercity bus lines—like Greyhound, Megabus, and Boltbus—are viable options to flying.

A site called Wanderu.com sells both train and bus tickets in this region. What’s cool is that you can easily see the differences in prices, schedules, and pickup points for both modes of transportation and make your decision from there.

Another good resource is Hipmunk, which shows you the train option—if there is one—alongside flights. This is a great way to see how long it takes to travel by train, and if the price is worth it.

If you’re looking to do more than just get from point A to point B, check out sites that sell vacation packages for rail or bus travel.

GoToBus.com has tours and hotels for bus travelers, while Vacations by Rail has packages where you can actually get on and off the train as you explore the country.
