Based in Ohio, Jeni Britton Bauer has made a name for herself in more than one state.
While attending Ohio State University to study art, Jeni also worked in a bakery and blended perfumes on the side as a personal hobby.
After leaving college, she opened Scream Ice Cream in 1996 at Ohio’s North Market in Columbus. Later, she would open Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams there in 2002.
There are now several scoop shops in Columbus, Nashville, Chicago, Cleveland, Altanta, Charleston, as well as New York.
The secret to Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams is that she uses grass-grazed milk, local produce, bean-to-bar chocolate from the U.S., and select ingredients from around the world.
While you can visit Jeni’s scoop shops in various states, there are still many to choose from in various locations in Ohio.
If you visit the original shop in the North Market in Columbus, you can try perennial flavors such as Savannah Buttermint and Lemon & Blueberries Frozen Yogurt.
But there are also seasonal flavors you can’t miss, such as Cultured Key Lime Pie Frozen Yogurt, Cherries Kickapoo, and Cataloupe & Sun Tea Sorbet.
Jeni’s signature flavors offer delights like Wildberry Lavender, Brown Butter Almond Brittle, Riesling Poached Pear Sorbet, Brambleberry Crisp, and Goat Cheese with Red Cherries.
If you want extra toppings, you can choose between sauces and accouterments like smoked almonds and hand-whipped cream.
Of course, if you can’t make it to Ohio, you can always buy the ice cream somewhere closer to you.
