airbnbThanks to technology, one of the newer trends is renting out your personal property on a short-term basis: owners make a few bucks, and travelers can cut serious costs by using travel apps.

Ever dreamed of owning a boat?  There are 16 million registered boats in the U.S., and those require slip fees, maintenance, fuel…you get the picture.

So someone came up with GetMyBoat, where private boat owners list their watercraft.

The cool thing is they’re up front about costs and boat details, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

You’ve heard of Airbnb, where you can rent out a room or a home straight from the owners.

Now they’ve added a feature for instant last-minute bookings, right on your smartphone. So you don’t have to plan too far in advance or run the risk of being stranded.

Currently, it’s only available in LA and San Francisco, but you may see it around the country soon.

For those of you with car payments, companies like Getaround and RelayRides connect car owners with those who need a vehicle for a short period of time. Yes, insurance is included.
