Daily Deal: American Airlines / US Air Mileage Bonus

USAir_mergerIn one of the first phases integrating American Airlines and U.S. Airways, the airline has announced its first phase of codesharing. Here’s what it means for you:

You can book flights on both airlines’ networks through the codeshare for travel starting January 23. And you can now earn and redeem miles on each airline and on many of the oneworld/global partners.

In addition to the codeshare, members of the AAdvantage and Dividend Miles Program, who are flying between January 23, 2014 and March 2, 2014, can earn a 50 percent mileage bonus on flights flown on the other airline.

The frequent flyer has to book a flight on the other airline and fly between the end of January through the beginning of March. For example, an AAdvantage frequent flyer member books their flight through U.S. Airways, while a Dividend Miles member books a flight through American Airlines. Then the flyer would register their flight for the promotion.

Keep in mind, bonus miles do not count toward elite status qualification.

If some flyers are not members of either frequent flyer program and are planning on flying between the required dates, then they are able to sign-up to become members and still receive the promotion. A bonus to this bonus is if you already booked your flight before the announcement, the flight can still be registered for the promotion.
